Q. Ack! My hat doesn’t fit anymore!
A. The stitching in yarn can draw tight over time. Try machine washing your hat in warm water then pull your hat in as many directions as possible. Then dry your hat and repeat the pulling process while it’s still warm. Pull enough to stretch the hat out well, but don’t go Hulk Hogan on it.
Q. Will my hat bleed color if washed with other clothes?
A. The yarn is dyed plastic and washed before being sent out, so the hat should not bleed or run when washed.
Q. My head is slightly/massively smaller/larger than an average person’s head. Can you make me a custom size hat?
A. I can modify most of my patterns to fit the size hat you will need. To be sure you get an accurate size, place a tape measure around your head about where a baseball caps would sit and measure to the closest inche (centimeter for you metric system user) and email me the results in the Special Orders form. I will try my very best to get the hat as close to that measurement as possible with a comfortable fit.
Q. Can I get my hat/plush/amigurumi/scarf in a different color than what you have available?
A. Yes, with limitations. I have a limited selection of craft stores to get my yarn from, so my color choices are limited to what they have available. Let me know what item you are interested in and I can let you know what colors I can offer to have it made in. Palette swaps are generally cheap/free depending on what I have on hand what is available in my local stores.
Q. I saw this awesome [x] that someone also made, but it costs $[y]. Can you make it for me at a cheaper price?
A. Nope.
Q. Sir or Madame, I wish to purchase 2 of your [enter item name here] and have them overnighted to Singapore. I wish to pay by bankers check or Western Union. Though my payment will clear by Monday I need them by Saturday for my favored nephew’s birthday. Please send them promptly.
A. Hell no.
Q. If I send you a picture of something I want to have made (sprite, screen shot, etc) can you make it?
A. Yes. As long as it’s not overly anime or completely ridiculous (Level 1-1 of Super Mario Bros pixel perfect in scarf form), then I can most likely make it for you. There are some limits with the mediums I use (mostly yarn and some felt) but I will let you know if something is impossible or not.
Q. Now that you mentioned it, can you make me a Level 1-1 Super Mario Bros pixel perfect scarf?
A. No.
Q. Pretty please?
A. No.
Q. So you work with anything else other than yarn?
A. I sometimes use felt to line some of my bags and to add on accent pieces or details, but I primarily work with yarn.
Q. Do you take special orders? If so, how can I contact you?
A. Yes I do. You can contact me with the form on the Special Orders page. Just fill in the areas and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.
Q. How long does it take you to make you items?
A. It varies. Generally most of my items take about 2-2.5 hours to complete. The longest item (Noby Noby Boy Hat and Scarf) takes 6 hours and 45 mins. The items that take the least amount of time are my amigurumi/plushies which take about 45 mins to a 1 hour depending on how detailed I decide to make them.
Q. How do you come up with your patterns?
A. To be honest, I stare at a picture and think “Can I make this?” I usually come up with yes-then starts the trial and error process accompanied with cursing, yelling and the throwing of yarn and crochet needles.
Q. Do you sell your patterns?
A. At the moment no, but maybe in the future.
Q. What conventions do you usually go to? And if I see you can I say hi?
A. Since I’m currently a full time college student, I have a hard time getting around to a lot of the popular conventions in my area. But if you do see one of us, feel free to say hi! ^_^
Q. What is your favorite color?
A. Purple. Sometimes green. Mostly purple.
Q. Is there really a difference between knit and crochet?
A. Yes. Google it.
Q. What if I have a question you didn’t answer?
A. You can contact me at shadowsinthenyte [at!] gmail.com. I’d be happy to answer any of your questions. ^_^
